MGEN volunteers spread smiles with beneficiaries during the HAPAG in Panay.
Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines – Meralco PowerGen (MGEN), the power generation arm of Meralco, is spreading holiday cheer and fostering a spirit of generosity this season through its annual Handog sa Pasko ng MGEN (HAPAG) initiative. This year, the program reached new heights, delivering support to over 3,600 beneficiaries in communities surrounding MGEN’s power plants across the country, embodying the true meaning of abundance, sharing, and togetherness.
At the core of HAPAG is MGEN’s employee-driven approach. MGEN employees volunteered their time and efforts, organizing fundraising activities to provide Christmas packages for more than 800 families in Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, and Rizal. The fundraising initiative was further amplified through MGEN Renewable Energy, Inc. (MGreen)’s “Piso Para sa Piso” campaign, which matched the employees’ contributions, doubling the impact of their efforts.
The funds raised by the employee base and matched by MGreen were also used to improve the infrastructure of local educational facilities. MGEN worked closely with local communities to identify key areas of need and, through a detailed assessment, upgraded nine daycare centers and two elementary schools: Tamale Elementary School in Nueva Ecija and Malalim Elementary School in Rizal. These enhancements included the provision of rubber mats, television sets, and other much-needed resources, ensuring that these facilities are better equipped to serve children for years to come.
MThermal Atimonan, one of MGEN’s key units in Quezon Province, brought joy to 350 children with toys and gifts while also providing Noche Buena packages to 47 relocated families. HAPAG’s impact also reached the Visayas through MThermal Panay, which supported 1,450 beneficiaries in Iloilo City and Aklan, dedicating PHP 500,000 to essential gifts and supplies for families in need. MThermal Cebu in Toledo City, Cebu, extended its support to 300 beneficiaries, ensuring the program’s reach continued to grow.
While the generous donations are a significant part of HAPAG, the true spirit of the program lies in the connections fostered between MGEN employees and the communities they serve. Staff members took part in personal visits to local beneficiaries, helping to celebrate the holidays and spreading joy in meaningful ways.
“Our Handog sa Pasko ng MGEN initiative is a testament to the spirit of giving that defines both our company and our people.
This year, we are proud not only of the resources we’ve been able to provide, but also of the lasting bonds we’ve created with the communities we serve. As we continue to grow and lead in the power generation sector, we remain committed to uplifting lives, sharing our success, and building a future where everyone can thrive.”
– Emmanuel V. Rubio, President and CEO of Meralco PowerGen (MGEN)
MGEN’s HAPAG initiative is a powerful reminder that true abundance is found in giving. By sharing its resources and time, MGEN demonstrates its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility and to enriching the lives of Filipinos—especially during the most wonderful time of the year. As MGEN continues to grow, its success will remain shared with the communities that have supported it, reinforcing a culture of collaboration and giving.
