MGEN volunteers work hand-in-hand with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Provincial Government of Quezon Environment and Natural Resources Office to clean up shorelines at Atimonan, Quezon.

Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN) joined this year’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), rolling out cleanup drives in Quezon, Iloilo, and Cebu. A total of 86 MGEN volunteers collected more than 2,200 kilograms of trash from shorelines and waterways.

Observed every third Saturday of September, the ICC is a global movement that unites millions of volunteers worldwide in collecting and documenting trash, thereby raising awareness and driving action against marine pollution.

In Atimonan, Quezon, MGEN further supported the wider community effort by donating sacks for organized waste collection and providing meals for over 500 volunteers, fueling a successful and energized clean-up effort. This aligns with MGEN’s sustainability initiatives and strengthens its collaboration with local government units, particularly the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).

“MGEN is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Our participation in the International Coastal Cleanup underscores our dedication to protecting marine ecosystems and fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations. We firmly believe that collective action is pivotal in addressing ocean pollution, and we are honored to collaborate with local government units and partners in this important endeavor,” said MGEN Thermal President and CEO Felino M. Bernardo.

MGEN remains committed to protecting the environment not only through its projects, but also by standing alongside communities in efforts like the ICC – living out its mission of powering a better tomorrow.
